My Essence's Favorite Overleaves :)

From two different sessions, slightly edited for proper grammar and punctuation.

Why did my Essence choose Spiritualist as my Attitude? The reason I'm asking this is that a lot of my overleaves are assimilative (Goal of Flow & Observation Mode). Why choose Spiritualism instead of going all the way with the neutral axis and pick Pragmatist?

MICHAEL: Spiritualist is one of your Essence's favorite Overleaves and it chooses this quite often. It is one of the ways it helps to keep the Personality always open to possibilities, especially in lifetimes such as this one where such deep issues as self-esteem are explored. Though you may find yourself challenged, fearful, anxious, panicked, etc. we see that you always hold within you the sense that there IS possibility.

You told me that Spiritualist was one of my Essence's favorite overleaves. What are its other favorites?

MICHAEL: Your Essence appears to gravitate toward, or return to, the Goal of Flow as a favorite, the Mode of Passion as a favorite, and almost always enjoys the Body Type of Venus.

Passion... now that sounds strange to me since I am in Observation sliding to Reserve. It's completely different from how I am this lifetime.

MICHAEL: This is because it was important for this Personality to have a bit more inclination for self-reflection, requiring a bit more distance from experiences, and the potential for greater clarity.

Does my Essence have a kind of personality of its own?

MICHAEL: Your Essence tends to create the "favorite" combinations after the 4th Level, and most-often during the 5th Levels. We will say that Essences have their own characteristics that are described by the Role, Soul Age/Level, Frequency, Energy Ratio, and Casting. Just like Overleaves, the use of these extend across a spectrum, and are eventually found to be balanced or used more and more effectively/appropriately. For simplistic purposes, it could be said that those are the "overleaves" of Essence.

I absolutely LOVE this!! We get to pick our favorites! Wonder what mine are!

@Troy: I may have misread your post then...

Just to clarify, when I originally received this channeling I interpreted it as meaning that Flow, Passion, Spiritualist and Venusian body type have become my Essence's "favorites" during my  current Grand Cycle as a scholar. When I read your post I thought what Michael meant was that those were "favorites" during my previous Grand Cycles as well.

Obviously Role, Casting, Frequency, etc. are for this Grand Cycle only.

The recognition of patterns is a Higher Moving Center positive pole of Beauty, or Energy. As one recognizes patterns, one begins to comprehend that the current pattern is within other patterns. From the most personal level of omens and signs to astrology to “Michael Math” and beyond, the patterns are valid and exist." (TLE Library: Pattern Recognition)

Keep mulling away until you see the patterns, too! They are valid and exist. As far as I'm concerned, this work validates the Michael teachings, as described almost 25 years ago the books Michael: The Basic Teachings (1988) and Michael Handbook (1990) using different channels than the ones in my studies. That's consistency that declares to me loud and clear:

Michael is REAL!!!

@Maureen, that's funny, and a great point. Sometimes the "average" speaks nothing to the reality of the situation, even though that average is absolutely correct.

All of this is bringing up my memories of having done some reading on "Correlation and Causation," and how statistics, while showing patterns, inherently lack any way to capture real world cause and effect, which is why they are often misleading and misrepresenting of facts. I always look at the most objective and clean statistics as being food for thought, and most of them as being reflective of the intent, beliefs, or agenda of the agency compiling the data. For instance, if you look at the statistics for the health benefits vs health detriments of Sugar vs Sugar Alternatives (such as Aspartame, or Saccharine,) depending on which one is more lucrative for that country, the statistics are in that favor.

Now, I know Ulla doesn't have any agenda, of course, but for some reason, drawing conclusions from the data doesn't quite feel right just yet. For me, it may be because I am already skeptical of statistics, so I just have to mull it over a bit more, but I'm also fascinated by what to actually do with the information, and what it might actually mean.

I'm a pretty quick thinker and I process things pretty fast, but for some reason, drawing conclusions so quickly (and conclusively) about anything makes me really uncomfortable.

Ulla ~ the best quote I ever heard on statistics was at a conference I was attending where someone in the audience was trying to "prove" a statistical pattern to the presenter. The presenter (with great humour I must add) said -- "If you had one foot in a bucket of cold water and the other foot in a bucket of hot water -- on average -- you would be comfortable" :)

The presenter was the author Roger von Oech who wrote the book "A Whack on the Side of the Head" and what he said to the audience fit really well with his conference topic "How to bring more Creativity into the Workplace".  It brought a lot of laughs but it also got us thinking about how we can "lead" ourselves to answers through "logical" empirical research and thought.

Another funny quote I love is from Neil Postman: "Children enter school as question marks and leave as periods."

@Karine, from your excerpt, both are addressed. The one Ulla quoted, about Frequency, Role, Casting, etc. was from across all Grand Cycles. I think? lol

@Troy: That these have been my Essence's favorite overleaves across all Grand Cycles is completely new to me! The way I had originally interpreted this information, I thought they were favorites for my current cycle only. Thanks for the clarification!

@Ulla, oh wow, that's good to know about the sample size! I never knew that. That seems so strange that 383 people could represent 100,000 people! Bizarre! And I understand your collection of data and the value (even if only out of curiosity) of examining the patterns, but I was just wondering how the statement you quoted tied into that.

No matter what, it's all fascinating!

Comment by Ulla Sarmiento on February 17, 2012 at 6:33pm

@Troy: Generally, the recommended sample size for a population of 100,000 with a 5% margin of error is only 383 people, based on Sample Size Calculator by Raosoft, Inc.

Thus, my sample size (over 450+ subjects) is not "tiny"- it's quite adequate for what I'm trying to show, i.e. certain choices of overleaves are made by certain roles more often than others. Of course, every essence has free will to choose whatever combinations they want, and every one of us has to experience ALL sorts of overleaves, at least once or more, but there are some preferred associations that I've shown to be significant by objective means. And yes, all my data applies to our grand cycle as humans, not reptiles! LOL. Maybe one day I'll get to study them, too. ;)

When I started these studies, I said: "Let the chips fall where they may!" I don't have a vested interest in any particular outcome, since I'm only reporting descriptive statistics, which have certainly confirmed what's been reported previously (e.g. Michael Handbook) and extended those results with more details about each role.

@Ulla, I'm not sure I see a connection.

Michael was commenting on something specific to Karine's Essence regarding characteristics that are chosen before even the first incarnation, and never change until a new Grand Cycle. Michael was speaking to "favorites" as a theme across Grand Cycles, not lifetimes, and put both Overleaves and Favorites in quotes, meaning it isn't literal.

Even if this were about lifetimes within a single Grand Cycle, and about literal Favorites and Overleaves, it would be specific only to an individual, not necessarily to a group. Since we pretty much go through every Overleaf across every Soul Age, I'm not sure if an accurate pattern could be extrapolated from such a tiny sampling. Or can it?

I may be misunderstanding what you see here.
