Philip Wittmeyer said… Moonfeather and others: Thanks for welcoming me. To be candid with you all, I will just be a lurker here, reading the posts that are sent to my gmail account. If things go as planned, I will be producing material to be posted on another site for years to come. Looking forward to seeing some of you at the East Coast gathering! Best regards,

Sophie said… Well, I certainly know that feeling... My favorite lifetime, as far as I remember, was as a captain of a merchant ship around 1500 or so. I can't pass by a ship without feeling homesick for the sea. Unfortunately, I get sea-sick really easily this time around, so I'm probably not going to set sail this lifetime. :) Not quite the same situation, but I imagine the feeling must be similar - bittersweet.
You know, I might actually have a few questions - my current book project is set in the US and while I'm still doing research, there's some things you simply cannot find out without asking. I'd be especially interested in your experiences with the Navy, as I find the US military system quite puzzling but relevant to my project. Would you mind if I send you a message concerning this some time?
